Teaching quality

All faculty members of Singapore Management University are experts selected from top universities. In order to help students, gain practical and theoretical knowledge, the university specifically selects research and practically experienced professors. Reflecting its emphasis on ‘real-life’ learning, SMU invites many industrial leaders to share their industrial expertise with students.

Apart from classroom teaching, postgraduate education at SMU involves several interactive workshops as part of the Postgraduate Professional Development Courses. These workshops complement classroom-based learning and are delivered by faculty who are experts in their fields, and students are also supported by trained industry experts. Topics covered are engaging and diverse, ranging across critical/creative thinking skill, interpersonal effectiveness and communication, negotiation, leadership, data analytics, organisational behaviour, spreadsheet modelling, innovation and business sustainability.

SMU puts in special effort to maintain a first-class quality of postgraduate education by presenting the Teaching Excellence in Postgraduate Programmes Award to faculty members who showcase exemplary quality of teaching skills, updated knowledge and student engagement. Department structure

SMU offers several postgraduate professional programmes through its seven schools that includes accountancy, business, law, information systems, economics, social sciences and integrative studies.

Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB): LKCSB has the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation, an EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation, as well as accreditation in the Association of MBA Schools (AMBA). It is one of the world’s youngest schools in the world to be accredited by both these accrediting bodies. LKCSB is also part of the EMBA Council along with other world-renowned business schools. The school provides holistic education that includes global exposure, industrial networking, and specialisation in their 10 postgraduate professional programmes.

School of Accountancy: The school teaches financial decision making, risk management, and managerial skills. It offers postgraduate programmes like the Master of Professional Accounting and MSc in Accounting (Data & Analytics).

School of Computing and Information Systems: The school focuses on innovation, research and IT solutions. The school also offers several postgraduate programmes that include a Master of IT in Business, MSc in Computing, MPhil in Information Systems and PhD programmes. It recently launched the Doctor of Engineering (DEng) programme.

School of Economics: The School of Economics is among the top ten economic schools worldwide in econometrics, providing students with deep insights into the subject, with the help of global faculty members. MSc in Economics, MSc in Financial Economics and PhD in Economics are the postgraduate programmes offered by the school.

Yong Pung How School of Law: The Yong Pung How School of Law trains students to become intellectual lawyers in the field of business, economics and international level politics. It offers postgraduate programmes like the Master of Laws, Juris Doctor and research programmes.
